WELCOME TO SUNSHINE SPRINGS FARM
where we Lead with Love
About
Sunshine Springs Farm is a history and nature preserve located just a 15 minute drive from Staunton, Virginia. We have been working to restore and preserve historic buildings as well as re-wild some of the previously domesticated land. We hope to use the property to serve the local community and ecosystems. We will be rolling out our programming over the next year and are starting with summer camps, then adding community events, and small private events.

Sustained Outdoor Learning
Led by Meredith, in partnership with Augusta County Parks and Recreation, Sustained Outdoor Learning will hold two sessions at Sunshine Springs Farm in 2026! Using the local environment as an integrating context, participants investigate real-world ecological and scientific phenomena, developing deeper connections to nature while honing inquiry skills. Through guided discovery, collaborative problem-solving, and experiential learning, participants engage in meaningful explorations that build scientific literacy, environmental stewardship, and a lifelong love of learning in the outdoors. Ages 8-12. Watch the video and register your child today!
Barn Restoration
From our research, we believe the barn and farmhouse at Sunshine Springs were constructed in the early 1800s by Shenandoah German settlers (a continuation southward of the Pennsylvania "Dutch"). The bank barn contains the original double-pen log structure with hand-hewn log beams and limestone foundation. We have been working with Grand View Construction to restore and preserve this incredible piece of history. The covered exterior barn space will be our gathering space for classes and events.

Creek and Habitat Restoration
Our farm is nestled at the base of Sugar Loaf Mountain in Augusta County, Virginia and is surrounded by farms and forests. The land features several natural springs, a creek, and a pond. We recently re-wilded our creek with the help of Virginia Vernal Pools by decommissioning the farm's domestic water system. Formerly contained natural spring water is now flowing naturally through a redesigned creek bed, complete with four pools, riffles, and runs. The new creek was designed with habitat for frogs, salamanders, and beneficial insects in mind. We are also in the process of removing invasive plants and reintroducing a more native landscape to our wild spaces.
Old Things, New Dreams
Stay Tuned! We are planning a "soft launch" in the fall of 2026. We hope to have a full season of offerings beginning spring of 2027.
